| Itinerary: | Machame is a beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. With a lovely gradual ascent through forest you emerge to see wide views of the moorland on Shira Plateau, Kibo and Western Breach.Day1 (ARUSHA)- You arrive at your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay
Day 2-(ARUSHA-MACHAME) Transfer from your hotel to the Village of Machame.The climb begins at the end of the tarmac road. Walk through the shamba and trek through the lush forest to the Machame. Stay/Camp overnight. Elevation:3000M Day 3-(MACHAME-SHIRA) Leaving the forest, the path follows a steep ridge, passing through heather and open moorlands. The route turns west into a river gorge to reach Shira Hut. Stay/Camp overnight. Elevation:3,800M Day 4- (SHIRA-BARRANCO) You turn eastwards to the Lava Towers, and continue ascending through the dry landscape before dropping again to reach Barranco Hut Stay/Camp overnight. Elevation:3,940M Day 5-(BARRANCO-BARAFU) The path climbs steeply out of the Barranco Valley, crosses the Karanga Valley,then turns north to reach Barafu Hut. Stay overnight. Elevation:4,600M Day 6-(BARAFU-MWEKA) An early start to reach the crater rim at Stella Point in time for sunrise. Then to Uhuru Peak - the highest point in Africa. Proceed to towards Mweka hut and the journey will be approx. 6 hours walk in steep but picturesque enviroment. Dinner and overnight at Mweka Hut. Elevation:5,896M Day 7- (MWEKA-ARUSHA)Mweka hut to Mweka gate will take 3 hours. Drive to Arusha for hot showers,dinner and overnight in Arusha hotel. |
